Trackballs offer a radically different approach to pointing. Instead of moving an optical sensor across a physical surface, the device remains stationary while your fingers or thumb manipulate a sphere. This fundamental shift completely eliminates the need for gross shoulder and arm movements, making trackballs highly unique in the ergonomic landscape.

Thumb vs Finger Operated

Thumb trackballs closely resemble the shape of a traditional mouse, making the transition easier. Maintenance and Cleaning

Trackballs have a hidden drawback: physical maintenance. The sphere rests on tiny artificial ruby bearings. Dead skin, oils, and dust will rapidly accumulate on these bearings, making the ball feel gritty or sticky. You must pop the ball out and wipe the bearings clean every few weeks.
